Jesús Marquina is Sergio Marquina (The Professor)'s father and the mastermind behind the heist at the Royal Mint of Spain.
Biography[]
When Sergio was a child, he suffered a serious illness. To raise enough money to fund his son's treatment at an American hospital, Jesús robbed banks. At his bedside, he told Sergio about his robberies and his dreams of robbing a mint one day.[2]
On February 5, 1987, Jesús Marquina left home to rob the Spanish-American bank. Sergio, not knowing what his father was up to, followed him by bicycle. He watched as his father ran out of the bank holding bags of cash in his hands. Police point their guns at him and order that he surrender, but Jesús notices Sergio watching him and gets distracted. Jesús fails to follow police orders and is shot dead.
